High Quality Ethically Sourced Ingredients
Only the Best Ingredients
MONQ pure essential oil blends are handcrafted using only the best ingredients, ethically sourced and sustainably grown. MONQ handcrafts custom blends using essential oils sourced from reputable companies in the United States and directly from native suppliers around the world. Every ingredient is selected with one question in mind: is this the best possible version of this botanical for this blend?
Where Our Ingredients Come From
Every blend starts with non-GMO, organic, and/or sustainably grown and harvested wildcrafted plants from the United States and around the globe. MONQ sources from trusted suppliers including Eden Botanicals, Appalachian Valley Natural Products, and Lotus Garden Botanicals, among others. By design, MONQ personal aromatherapy diffusers require far less essential oil than traditional room diffusers, making our products one of the most ecologically sound aromatherapy options available.
All U.S.-sourced ingredients are Oregon-Tilth Certified Organic. Those sourced from international, native growers are verified organic by region-specific organizations and vetted by Oregon Tilth once in the U.S. Plant materials are processed either directly on the farm or with the U.S. vendor, and essential oils are extracted by steam distillation or CO2 extraction without the use of alcohol.
What Best Ingredients Actually Means
The phrase gets used loosely in the wellness industry. At MONQ, it has a specific meaning. Every essential oil in every blend must meet these standards:
- No synthetic fragrance: MONQ uses only genuine essential oils, not fragrance oils, not perfume compounds, not laboratory-synthesized aromatic substitutes. If an ingredient is listed, it is the real botanical.
- No dilution: MONQ does not use carrier oils to stretch blends further. The essential oils are the product.
- No artificial preservatives: The formulas contain no synthetic stabilizers or chemical preservatives. The integrity of the blend comes from the quality of the ingredients themselves.
The Science Behind Ingredient Selection: Terpenes
Every essential oil is a complex mixture of chemical compounds. The most important of these are terpenes - volatile organic molecules that carry the aromatic character of the plant and drive its documented interactions with the body and mind.
When MONQ selects an ingredient, it isn't just choosing a scent. It's choosing a terpene profile. Specific terpenes engage specific receptors in the olfactory system and beyond. Linalool interacts with GABA pathways. Alpha-pinene inhibits acetylcholinesterase - the enzyme that breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Beta-caryophyllene binds selectively to CB2 receptors. The chemistry matters, and it only works the way it should if the starting material is pure.
Each MONQ blend is formulated starting with three primary ingredients and builds from there, adding as many as 25 separate essential oils to create a terpene-rich, synergistic blend. The handcrafted blend is then emulsified in an organic coconut-derived vegetable glycerin base for optimal diffusion.
There's a broader thesis at work here: modern environments have stripped out the natural aromatic complexity that humans evolved alongside. For most of human history, people lived embedded in plant-rich environments and inhaled terpene-rich air constantly. MONQ is partly a restoration of that connection. Four Ingredients Worth Knowing
Frankincense - One of the most historically significant aromatics in the world. Steam-distilled from Boswellia resin, frankincense contains incensole acetate and alpha-pinene. Research has examined its potential for supporting psychological grounding and cognitive clarity. It has been used in ritual, meditation, and ceremonial contexts across every major ancient civilization.
Lavender - The most widely studied essential oil in aromatherapy research. Its primary compounds - linalool and linalyl acetate - have been extensively examined for their calming properties. Lavender appears in several MONQ blends where ease and relaxation are the intended experience.
Bergamot - Cold-pressed from the rind of the bergamot orange, this Italian citrus oil carries a complex aromatic profile that is simultaneously bright, floral, and slightly green. Its primary terpenes include limonene and linalyl acetate. Bergamot has been associated with mood support and stress reduction in multiple studies.
Spearmint - A gentler relative of peppermint, spearmint is the primary carrier of R-carvone, a terpene with a fresh, herbal character associated with mental clarity and focus. Spearmint is a key ingredient in Focus MONQ, where it contributes both aromatic brightness and cognitive intention.
The Result
The sum of these choices is a line of blends that are clean, precise, and built on a real understanding of what each plant does. MONQ isn't curating scents. It's engineering aromatic experiences from the molecular level up.
