Weight Loss: Four Essential Oils That Can Be Helpful

Weight Loss

As a single mom about to say adios to her thirties, I will be honest and say, wow it is hard to get rid of this baby weight and lose the weight.  The embarrassing thing is that the baby was born over nine years ago, so the excuses are farcical at this point. We know there is no magic potion, no fairy Godmother to poof away our puffy gut. You need to focus, be strict with your workouts and most importantly watch what you put into your body. In a world where bread is your enemy and Vegans rule the earth, it can all be very intimidating. Many of us give in to the monkey chatter in our heads. We find every excuse under the sun not make that change. “I’m too old, I’m too tired, how could I put myself first when I have kids.”

Well, let me tell you something – as long as you have a breath left in you, it is never too late. Baby steps my friends, that’s all you need to get going. Baby steps, and perhaps the closest thing I have found to a tiny miracle: essential oils.

I am not saying that essential oils are going to turn back the clock.

However, certain oils may stop time for a bit.

I’m just saying we all need a nudge. We need that naggy aunt Linda who pushes us and brags about us. That is what these essential oils will do for you, give you that kick in the butt no matter how big or small it may be (pun intended) to provide you with the energy to get on track and stay the course. These are some of the favorites that I use in my day to day regime.

grapefruit

Grapefruit Oil

This is my favorite oil, not only because it helps support your metabolism and purifies the lymphatic glands, but also because it helps reduce appetite. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I could even massage a few drops on my chest and wrists when I feel a craving coming on. My beloved essential oil is now doubling as a natural perfume, Eau de grapefruit!

This passionate YouTuber taught me putting the essential oil on topically also acts as a diuretic and flushes out water weight.

It will also reduce belly bloat and fatigue. Ladies, hold on to your Spanx, grapefruit oil can even smooth out cellulite.

turmeric

Turmeric

Turmeric, also known as Curcuma longa, is said to reduce depression. What does that have to do with weight loss?

Well, there are studies that show a relationship between weight loss and depression. These disturbances include inflammatory signals, insulin resistance, and hormonal disorders. Turmeric is known for its antidepressant-like activity. It increases serotonin and dopamine levels, neurotransmitters which help fight depression.1

If you are a tea lover, you can make your turmeric concoction, like this great recipe by Wellness Mama. Or if you are like me always on the go, pick up a Healthy MONQ Essential Oil diffuserTurmeric, along with marjoram and cinnamon leaf is the main ingredient in this essential oil reviver.

Sandalwood

For the emotional eater allow me to introduce you to sandalwood. This magical oil extracted through steam distillation of wood from matured sandalwood trees (which are 40-80 years old) should be your new ally. This essential oil can be to you what Dorothy’s oil can be to the Tin Man. It will slowly anoint your mind, body, and spirit into breaking those emotional chains that can bog you down.

Again, are you seeing a pattern here? If you can let go, you can wave goodbye to the pounds.

Sometimes being a victim of our environment plays a big part in our well being. If you live in a big city and spend a lot of time on the subway or in your car, it’s likely you don’t get out into nature much – keeping your body and brain stagnant. I have an alternative.

Enter sandalwood, enter Forest Bathing, and enter Dr. MONQ. Sit back, take a deep breath, and take a walk in the woods. If you won’t be strolling the woods anytime soon, why not just have it at your fingertips and try a Forest MONQ Essential Oil diffuser?

lavender

Lavender

When we think of lavender, we often think of its sublime bouquet. Many of us use it as part of our home cleaning ritual because of its natural disinfectant properties. What you may not know is that lavender is excellent for cleansing ourselves. So many of us can’t sleep – we’re overthinkers, we’re overworked. Lack of sleep can lead to weight gain. In an article in the Daily Burn, losing out on rest creates a vicious cycle in your body, making you more prone to various factors contributing to weight gain.

Much like turmeric, lavender helps creates an atmosphere of Zen. When you have an unclouded mind, you open the door to happiness. When you find that joy, you’ll want to take care of yourself. According to The Global Healing Center, lavender essential oil has been shown to improve sleep quality. Studies have shown a direct correlation between healthy sleep patterns and weight loss.

This wonder essential oil is enjoyed in a variety of ways – you can even bake with it! I found this scrumptious, healthy recipe for Lavender Lemon Cake Cookies.

If lack of sleep is stopping you from losing weight, you can try out my favorite way to use lavender – the Sleepy MONQ Essential Oil diffuser

Wherever you are on your weight loss journey, be easy on yourself. These essential oils are mere tools to help you enhance your experience. Ultimately, for any of this to work, you have to first love yourself, love the climb, and be in the moment.
