Essential oils are highly concentrated, allowing you to carry a lot of therapeutic properties in one small bottle. Whether you’re looking for something to help you relax, boost your mood, or increase your energy, there is an essential oil for that. These oils can be used both aromatically and topically depending on your needs.

You can diffuse essential oils throughout your hotel room, breathe them in on-the-go through a personal diffuser, or even add them to homemade skincare products. Roller bottles – consisting of a carrier oil and a few drops of your favorite essential oil – are another quick and easy way of bringing these oils on vacation. Simply place a few in your purse and you have pre-diluted oils that can be used anywhere!

Essential oils also help replace harmful chemicals that are common in many households. Instead of a chemical-filled disinfecting spray, you can use a mixture of water, vinegar, and essential oils. A mixture of carrier oils, natural butter and essential oils can replace skincare products loaded with unpronounceable ingredients. Instead of always reaching for over-the-counter medications, essential oils can help with many of the same symptoms.

What Essential Oils are Best For a Beach Trip?

Take a second to think about how you feel when you are at the beach. What sort of activities do you get involved in? Are there any over-the-counter medicines you always carry with you? Do you find it hard to relax and forget about work, or do you often need more energy?

Lavender Essential Oil for Relaxation

Sometimes it can be difficult to turn off the constant to-do list inside your head. Vacation is a time for relaxation, and it’s impossible to relax when you’re always thinking about work. Even if you’re not focusing on work, maybe your children are causing you to stress, or the long-haul flight left you feeling frazzled.

Regardless of the reason, lavender essential oil is here to help. Lavender is known for its abilities to soothe feelings of stress and anxiety, ease tension, and improve sleep quality. When you start to feel stressed or simply need to take a moment to relax, breathe in the comforting scent of lavender. You can diffuse it throughout your hotel room or mix it into a spray bottle with water and lightly spray your bed linens and clothes. Simply breathing it in straight from the bottle can also help.

Tea Tree Essential Oil to Treat Minor Cuts and Scrapes

Tea tree essential oil is known as “nature’s first aid kit in a bottle”, and for good reason. This oil has powerful antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. Tea tree’s antibacterial properties make it an ideal oil to turn to when you have a minor scrape, cut, burn, bite, or other minor skin injuries.

If you’ve gotten a minor scrape from walking along the beach barefoot, use a small amount of diluted tea tree oil and cover with a bandaid to keep out infections. You can pre-dilute your tea tree oil in a roller bottle with fractionated coconut oil for easy use. You can also make a homemade salve with olive oil, beeswax, and tea tree essential oil!

Peppermint Essential Oil for Sunburn Relief

After a long day of basking in the sun, you may find that you need some relief from sunburn. Due to its high menthol content, peppermint essential oil has powerful cooling properties. Peppermint essential oil is known for its antibacterial, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory properties. By diluting this oil and massaging into sunburnt skin, you can ease the pain of sunburn and cool yourself down.

Try mixing a few drops of peppermint essential oil with coconut oil and aloe vera. After a day at the beach, massage this healing mixture into any sunburnt areas. For an extra bit of relaxation and skin-soothing properties, add a few drops of lavender essential oil to this mixture.

Lemon Essential Oil to Keep Your Towels Smelling Fresh

Have you ever left a damp towel crumpled up in the corner of a room? If so, you know exactly how horrible the scent can be. After a few days at the beach, your towels may not be as fresh as you wish them to be. To instantly freshen them up, use lemon, orange, or other citrus oils.

Lemon essential oil is known for its powerful antimicrobial properties, which can help get rid of any nasty bacteria that may start to develop on damp towels. Try mixing lemon essential oil with water in a spray bottle, and then spraying your towels and hanging them to air dry. If you want to give them a quick spin in the dryer, add a few drops of lemon essential oil to a dryer ball.

Grapefruit Essential Oil to Boost Energy

Imagine the scent of grapefruit in the morning. The fresh, tangy scent can instantly boost your mood and give you a jolt of energy. The same is true for grapefruit essential oil. Are you feeling lethargic after a long day in the sun? Did you drink a little too much at the beachfront bar? Simply inhaling grapefruit essential oil from the bottle can help wake you up.

Try diffusing a mix of grapefruit, lemon, and peppermint essential oil. The fresh, clean scent can help give you the energy you need to get through the rest of your day.
