Halloween is almost upon us. At this time of year, we love to dress up, take the kids trick or treating, or enjoy some punch at a more adult party. Finding good Halloween costume ideas can be tricky, though. Witches and zombies are old-hat, but who wants to buy a superhero outfit from a costume store and risk looking just like everyone else?
Halloween Costume Ideas and MONQ Essential Oils
A good costume is one that you feel confident in. If you pick a costume that reflects your personality and your mood, then you will find yourself looking and feeling like the life of the party. Here are a few ideas for Halloween costumes, as inspired by our essential oil blends.
Active
Dash from Disney’s Incredibles is a great example of an active character that is easy to cosplay as. In fact, the Incredibles, in general, is a nice gender-neutral option. The jump-suit and gloves are easy to wear, and it’s the kind of costume you can run around in and party in. No fear of ruining the costume, or overheating while wearing it. The costume is as versatile as the Active blend, which includes lipid-lowering cinnamon1and blood pressure-lowering marjoram.2 Don’t forget that the Incredibles was a full family, so if there’s a group of you going out you can pick a character each. Just be sure to study up on the superpowers!
Sleepy
If you’re after a cute, quirky, and sleepy costume, how about the girl from Stranger Things? This is an easy costume to DIY, and it’s a lot of fun to wear as well. If you’re a natural blonde, it’s almost effortless, and if you’re not then you get the chance to wear a wig and to find out whether it’s true that blondes have more fun. One of the main ingredients of the Sleepy blend is chamomile, and if you try the blend at the end of a hard night’s trick or treating, you should find yourself feeling relaxed and chilled out. Chamomile has long been used in herbal medicines, as a treatment for fever, rheumatic pain, insomnia and more.3 The blend also includes Lavender, which is great for helping with anxiety,4 so if you’ve had one too many scares at a horror night it will help you to doze off!
Zen
What could possibly be more zen than a monk? If you’re looking for an easy, recognizable Halloween costume idea, then try out a monk. It can be as simple as a hooded robe, or you can go for the full garb. Make yourself Friar Tuck or a healer out of your favorite video game, or go for a more spiritual monk if that’s your thing. The scent of frankincense from the Zen blend will just add to the outfit, too. Frankincense essential oil is a popular ingredient in skin care, and recent studies show that it has some interesting benefits in terms of reducing inflammation.5 So your Zen blend will help you look stunning even after the big night out. Why not make it a part of your regular beauty routine?
Relieve
If you love the healing blend of ginger, spikenard, and helichrysum, then why not get some cred with the kids and dress up like Mercy from Overwatch. She has plenty of costume options herself that are iconic and fun, and it’s a great way to express yourself. This popular Blizzard game presents a wealth of cosplay options. Ana, for example, has a great ghoulish outfit, and a nice Corsair outfit too! The Relieve blend includes ginger, which is a great essential oil for helping to manage cravings and also as an antiemetic.6 So if you pick up a few too many sweets trick or treating (or get tempted to raid the kid’s candy box) then this will help to soothe your stomach!
Ocean
The pirate trope may be a little over-done, but it’s so much fun! It’s one of the easier costumes to pull off in a comedic way, and if you live for Talk Like a Pirate Day then having another day of the year when you can get well into your roll is something that can be hard to pass up. All you need really is some old boots, a long coat, and an eye patch and that’s most of the outfit. A stuffed parrot wouldn’t go amiss either. The ocean essential oil blend includes eucalyptus, lime, and tangerine, which are all great for refreshing you. Eucalyptus oil can be antimicrobial, which is great as the flu-season approaches.7 Lime oil also has similar benefits.8
Vibrant
If you like to stand out and turn heads, then Vibrant is the blend for you, and you’ll want a costume that stands out too. Let’s face it, if you’re the vibrant type then you are probably someone who has been planning Halloween costume ideas since last Thanksgiving. You probably have a BumbleBee outfit that will transform, or you have a perfect replica of your favorite action hero. All you need now is the pick me up to get through the night, and that’s what the vibrant blend will do for you. In addition to ginger and lemon, the benefits of which have been well discussed, Vibrant contains spearmint which can help to clear your nose, and is great for clearing up headaches too.
Halloween Fun All Around
Halloween is great for adults and for kids these days. If you’re out trick or treating with the kids, then wrap up warm and enjoy a nice walk around the neighborhood, then bring them home to count their candy in front of the fire and enjoy a cinnamon drink in a nicely scented room. Stick some lavender in the diffuser so they’ll calm down and go to bed before the really scary movies come on!
