Dim the lights and cut down on all sources of noise that you possibly can. You can wear a towel draped over your head and the container to make sure you get the full benefit, or merely let it filter into the room to clean the air as well.

Of course, you can also just inhale the oil directly if all of that seems like too much work for you. (Few people actually take the time to boil anything at all these days, so it’s understandable if you feel that way) You can try sniffing it straight from the bottle of course, but this might be a little too strong still. Instead, try simply applying a few drops to a cloth or cotton ball and inhale deeply for as long as you’re able. If you do this a few times throughout the day, you’ll definitely have your fill.

Additional Approaches

There are at least a few other options if none of those detailed above seem to suit your fancy. For example, you can also go the true DIY route and make a toothpaste out of your favorite oil. Add a few drops to some baking soda and water and you’ll be all set. You can also make lotions for your face or hands with the same basic principle. Simply placing a drop or two on the backs of your hands or even behind your ears is also a slightly less worrisome way to take the topical approach, or you can use a cold diffuser to disperse the oil through the air at random intervals.

Ultimately, it’s all up to you. Just be open to experimentation. The great thing about having so many options is that you can also mix things up. It makes the most sense to make your essential oil usage part of your daily routine, but sometimes that can make life awfully boring.  New habits have a way of making themselves feel more like unnecessary obligations that can be easily dropped. Rather than give in to the temptation to give up altogether when you get tired of a particular method, simply move onto the next and just cycle through. Anything you can do to keep up your exposure to the oils in order to draw from their brilliant health benefits is obviously for the best.

Just allow the oil to settle in your mouth and focus on the taste. You can also focus on the sensation it leaves upon your lips or tongue, or even think about it as it travels down the throat and into the stomach. This should give you more than enough of a distraction from everything else happening in the room, and most importantly, your head and inner monologue.

Using Essential Oils For Mindfulness Meditation

It may not seem as easy to use essential oils to help with your mindfulness meditations at first; they can actually be quite beneficial in a mental sense. All of the amazing relaxation afforded to your regular essential oil use is perfect for settling your mind in preparation for the deeper meditation that’s about to take place. You can simply follow up one with the other and combine the two into one large routine that you can repeat as often throughout the week as you may need. If you have the means, doing this for 30 minutes every single day will be able to make a significant impact in your life.

As described above, you might also be able to simply replace following your thoughts from a detached perspective with following the oil as it enters your body and goes into your system. This should actually be easier to do since your thoughts are already so ingrained in you that viewing them in a different perspective is almost too abstract to accept for many people. Imagining a small amount of liquid entering and working its way through your body is another topic entirely.

This should come as no surprise whatsoever given the commonality of peppermint oil in the text above. It is one of the most readily available forms of essential oil and it is incredibly powerful and diverse. Virtually every benefit listed above can be derived from the usage of peppermint oil, including the prevention of tumors and cancer cell growth. It also works to fight inflammation, detoxify the body, and cure wounds. Even better, it smells amazing and it doesn’t taste too bad either! You’ll find both of those particular attributes incredibly useful for the prospect of making this a regular habit.

Lavender oil is another common example that’s brilliantly effective in every respect. It has plenty of natural nutrients to offer, as well as hair regenerative properties, the ability to prevent diseases, pain reduction, and then some. This is also among the best options if you’re going the aromatherapy route since it has such a soothing scent. Even using it topically is an incredibly alluring practice that you’re sure to grow accustomed to quite quickly.

Lavender is also incredibly useful when it comes to killing germs and bacteria in particular. For this reason, you may want to consider using it as your essential oil toothpaste ingredient of choice. This is also a fine option if you’re looking to use essential oils mostly to improve your cognitive function. Its enzymes boost neurological abilities as well, largely in part to how effectively it can kill off certain toxins within the body. It has never failed to impress how intimately one aspect of the human nervous system links to the next. Luckily, that can be used to our advantage when it comes to the healing properties of certain forms of medication and health supplements.  

Turmeric 

Turmeric also has quite a few powerful enzymes. This makes it a similar option to frankincense given its ability to fight off unhealthy cell mutation and inflammation. It has been proven to ward off lymphoma cells in particular, as well as stem cells. Cancer cell metastasis has also been halted in some studies after the introduction of turmeric into the system. Turmeric also has the ability to regulate blood sugar, making it a fine choice for anyone suffering from diabetes. It will naturally aid in the weight loss properties of essential oil laid out above as well. Beyond that, you may find that it is one of the best options for warding off neurological issues like dementia and Alzheimer’s, and it allows for incredible pain relief as well. Myrrh

Local Health Supplement Stores

In many respects, you may find that this is the superior means of shopping for essential oils. If you have some decent health supplement stores in your town, you can go in and browse a wide selection and see what you think of each of them for yourself. It will also be easy to bounce your choices off of the employees there. Provided they’re knowledgeable, you’ll likely be able to get some useful insight that can help you make your choice. There are so many options you are bound to find the right fit for you. 

An extra perk of buying on the spot is that you can enjoy your product immediately. When you buy online, you have to wait for the shipping process to complete. In terms of items that aren’t quite as mainstream as bottles of essential oil, the online route will leave you buying from third-party sellers most of the time. It’s not always guaranteed that they will even ship the product out in a timely fashion. It’s obviously much better to purchase an item and walk right out the door with it and then start using it later that night. After everything read above, you’re likely ready to get started right away. So, why wait any longer than you have to?

It may also be safer to buy in person in many respects. You’ll be able to check the label for all of the ingredients yourself, and also investigate it to make sure that the bottle has never been opened. Sometimes you don’t know what you’re going to get when you buy from an online source, even if they seem to be reputable. Being able to make sure that the product arrives safely without shipping damage or the like is of an incredible benefit overall.

The pricing of the local stock is also sometimes less expensive. At the very least, you won’t have to worry about fielding any shipping and handling fees. You’ll only have to worry about local state taxes as well. Sometimes even an alluringly low price online ends up being quite difficult on the wallet once you start adding all of the additional fees on top.

Online Stores  

There are an awful lot of negatives listed about online stores listed above, but in some cases that might be your only real option. Not every town has a local health supplement supplier, and essential oils aren’t really something you’ll find in the pharmacy sections of most grocery and retail stores. With that in mind, you may need to dig around on the internet instead.

There are plenty of individual websites that sell essential oil exclusively, but you can also find a lot of options on major sites like Amazon. It’s best to go through a service like that since you’ll have better protection for your order if anything goes wrong. You’ll also be able to read unbiased customer reviews. That in and of itself can really save the day when it comes to knowing which seller or which specific product you can trust.

Always Research First

This honestly goes for buying in person as well, but it’s especially true online: you have to make sure you do plenty of research before you purchase any particular brand of essential oil. Take a look at the label and then look up what people have to say about that particular brand. If you’re buying from a specific web store, you need to look around for impartial conversations that customers may be having about it online. Essential oil specialty forums or content aggregates like Reddit can help reveal a lot. If the site happens to have a social media profile on a site like Facebook, you can also find out a lot about it through the comments that customers might have left there.

 Once you feel you understand as much about that particular product as possible, you are ready to order. 

Drug-Related Side Effects

Any prescription medications you currently take for existing health conditions may potentially lead to adverse side effects when you also introduce essential oils into your system. There hasn’t been a lot of research on the subject as of yet, but there are some minor reports circulating about peppermint and eucalyptus oil in particular. It’s been claimed that they can make certain cancer-fighting medications absorb too deeply within the skin.

Strength

As described above, some essential oils are incredibly potent. If you don’t diffuse them properly, you may damage your skin in a variety of ways. With this in mind, it may be best to use as little as possible just to be safe.

Anyone that has experienced such side effects does seem to be in the minority.  You need to be both cautious and mindful before you take on any major change in your life. You may want to consult with your personal doctor beforehand. Provided they’re open to alternative healing options, they’ll likely be able to guide you through the entire process.
