Everything You Need To Know About Carrier Oils Like Jojoba

A brief guide to_ jojoba carrier oil

Essential oils can often be volatile and lightweight. When an essential oil needs to be diluted for safety reasons, a carrier oil is used.  Typically, essential oils evaporate when they come in contact with your skin or hair and leave a concentration of the potent compounds that provide the fragrance and therapeutic effects of essential oils. When essential oils are applied directly to the skin, a severe reaction or a burn can occur. Those who are young, those with sensitive skin or elderly users should be especially aware of the dangers associated with applying essential oils directly to the skin and the importance of using a carrier oil.

A carrier oil dilutes the essential oil and protects against the dangers associated with the direct application of essential oils. A carrier oil reduces the rate of evaporation and helps to improve the absorption of essential oils, thus improving the effectiveness of essential oils. Additionally, a carrier oil helps to regulate the quantity of essential oil that is used.  Finally, the carrier oil contains nutrients that further enhance the effects of essential oils.

In addition to using a carrier oil for safety reasons, the carrier oil can benefit your hair and skin. As mentioned before, essential oils can evaporate quickly. Using a carrier oil reduces the rate of evaporation, thus extending the life of your essential oils and prolonging the effects it can have on your health or beauty routine.

One of the best available carrier oils is jojoba. In addition to jojoba, you can use any of the following twenty carrier oils.

  1. Apricot kernel oil
  2. Avocado oil
  3. Babassu oil
  4. Black seed oil
  5. Borage seed oil
  6. Camellia seed oil
  7. Canola oil
  8. Castor oil
  9. Emu oil
  10. Evening primrose oil
  11. Grapeseed oil

  20. Wheatgerm oil

You can also blend a few carrier oils together to improve the lubrication, absorption, viscosity, aroma and much more. For example, if you feel like olive oil’s viscosity is too thick, you can combine it with a thinner carrier oil like grapeseed oil. This helps to create a carrier oil blend that you can add your choice of essential oils to create an essential oil blend that feels great.

What Are the Properties of the Best Carrier Oils?

A carrier oil must exhibit these properties in order to be considered effective.

* The carrier oil should have little to no scent to ensure the integrity of the essential oil’s aroma remains true. Doing so will ensure that you get the maximum aromatic benefits of the essential oil.

* The carrier oil should be neutral. This will ensure that the chemical compounds in the essential oil are not changed when the carrier oil is blended with the essential oils. For best results, you should choose macerated or cold-pressed carrier oils to help ensure neutrality and purity.

* The carrier oil should stable. Carrier oils are used to increase the stability of the essential oil and reduce the evaporation rate of the essential oil on the skin.

One of the Best Carrier Oils Is Jojoba

When it comes to carrier oils, you should understand that not all carrier oils are the same. Some oils are better than others for carrier oils. One of the best carrier oils on the market is jojoba oil. This is because it has a unique blend of beneficial properties. Let’s take a look at the numerous benefits that jojoba oil offers.

Jojoba oil is composed of 75 percent eicosenoic acid. Eicosenoic acid is an omega 9 fatty acid that is similar to the sebum (oil) that the skin produces. Because of this, jojoba oil is a great carrier oil for the skin, especially for your face and neck areas. This oil is easily absorbed into the skin, which helps the essential oil penetrate the skin, resulting in even better outcomes.

Jojoba oil also contains some of the longest chains of essential fatty acids compared to other carrier oils. This means that the jojoba oil is extremely stable and can be used to dilute your favorite essential oils. It also resists oxidation, which means when you combine an essential oil with jojoba oil, it will have a very long shelf life. Jojoba oil will not turn rancid like other oils. Finally, when essential oils are combined with jojoba oil, the essential oil will not lose its efficacy.

Jojoba oil has antifungal properties. If you combine the jojoba oil with other essential oils that provide antifungal and antibacterial properties, the blend can help relieve a number of fungal infections.

Combining your favorite essential oils with jojoba oil makes one of the best blends that can be used to improve your hair, skin, and scalp. Furthermore, this blend makes a wonderful massage oil. However, jojoba oil cannot be properly digested. Therefore, it should never be injected unless you are under the supervision of a medical professional.

Additional Benefits of Jojoba Oil

  1. Jojoba Oil Protects Against UV Exposure – Jojoba oil is known to protect against sunburn. If you get a sunburn due to a prolonged exposure to the sun, apply jojoba oil and your favorite essential oil to soothe your skin.1
  2. Jojoba Oil Helps Remove Makeup – Jojoba oil can be used as a makeup remover. Apply jojoba oil to the skin with a cotton swab to help remove dirt, grime, makeup and pollutants from the skin. Because of the nourishing effects of jojoba oil, your skin will be moisturized. Finally, the compounds found in jojoba oil helps to fight dry skin and reduce the fine lines and wrinkles.2

While there are several carrier oils to choose from, you have to find the one that works the best for you. Jojoba is a great starting place, but there may be another oil mentioned in the list above that works better for you. As you experiment, keep in mind that each carrier oil will bring out something different from the essential oil, allowing for the benefits of each oil to be truly seen.
