Cityscape: The Sights and Smells of Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand is one of the most fascinating cities in Southeast Asia, both chaotic and beautiful. The attractions that this beautiful city provides should not be underestimated—Bangkok presents a rich blend of food, culture, and city-life, so unlike other cities around the world.

Sights of Bangkok

First, there is the food scene, which many say might just be the best in all of Southeast Asia. The smell of frying chilis and the booths of street vendors scattered throughout the city serve as a constant reminder that food in Bangkok will never get boring. Add to this the scents of fish sauce, lemongrass, and basil, and you’ll start to get a feel for the rich scents and sights that you’ll get to take in while walking down the street in Bangkok.

In addition to the ever-present smell of food and spices, the scent of incense often fills parts of the city as it wafts from courtyards, doorways, and Buddhist temples that make up the rich fabric of Bangkok.

It is the mix of the old and new that makes Bangkok such an exciting place to visit. Here, the sights, sounds, and smells of the city boast both a proud history as well as a hopeful vision of future progress.

Remembering Bangkok with Jasmine and Lemongrass

I love remembering the time I spent in Bangkok, from sitting on the curb eating food from street vendors to bustling through the city, captivated by the glow of city lights. Because I associate Bangkok so closely with the smells I experienced there, I looked to essential oils to mimic the smells that remind me of the city.

Although the city boasts a unique mix of smells, it is the scents of jasmine and lemongrass that linger in the air even on the hottest of days that remind me of the simple beauty of the people, culture, and exceptional culinary tradition in Bangkok.

Jasmine is one of the most fascinating of essential oils because it has been used as a natural remedy for a range of health conditions for hundreds of years. This essential oil has been shown to improve mood, act as a potent aphrodisiac, and improve sleep quality.

To take me back to Bangkok and reap the benefits that jasmine essential oil offers, I love mixing a few drops of jasmine essential oil into a lotion, diffusing it in a room diffuser, or using it in a personal essential oil diffuser .

In contrast to the light, floral aroma of jasmine, lemongrass essential oil boasts one of the cleanest and most jasmine refreshing of scents of all the essential oils. It can also be far less bitter than some of the other citrus-based essential oils.

The benefits of lemongrass essential oil include providing a calming effect, allowing for increased relaxation. This essential oil also has antifungal and antiseptic properties. Because of its refreshing scent, my favorite way of reaping the benefits of lemongrass essential oil while remembering Bangkok is by using it in my room diffuser or in a portable essential oil diffuser .

If you want to experience the thrill of travel to Bangkok or have already visited and hope to go back, it might not be necessary to leave the comfort of your own home. I’ve loved traveling back to Bangkok with jasmine and lemongrass essential oils, all while experiencing the health benefits that these essential oils provide.
