Cityscape: Tangerine Essential Oil Takes Me to Anchorage, Alaska

Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska, and it's one of those places that you will never forget if you are fortunate enough to visit it. Now, Anchorage isn’t your average city. If you're looking for a sprawling metropolis full of all of your favorite attractions, then you will find yourself disappointed. But if you're here for hiking, fishing, and exploring nature, then you're in for a treat.

Anchorage also boasts many cultural and natural landmarks, including the Chugach, Kenai, and Talkeetna natural sites, and the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

The scents of Alaska are distinctive, and some of them are even surprising. Did you know, for example, that there's a bird in Alaska called the auklet, which has a distinctive appearance—their plumage looks like a mohawk— and that smells like tangerine. Yes, male auklets produce their own tangerine-scented cologne to attract mates.

Spring Awakens the Senses

In the dead of winter, Alaska doesn't have much of a scent, as you might expect. This is partly because of the fact that cold weather dulls scents. As spring comes, and the snow melts, however, you’ll find that smells the smells return—auklets bring with them the scent of tangerine and nature begins to bloom.

It's the scent of the auklets that reminds me of Alaska: the memory of spring beginning as the scent of tangerine fills the air. Because of this, when I started my journey with using essential oils because of the health benefits they provide, I was drawn to tangerine essential oil because its scent reminded me of the city that I love.

Boost Your Spirits with Tangerine Essential Oil

Tangerine is an incredibly calming essential oil known to soothe irritability, lift the spirits, and act as an antioxidant. This makes it popular among those in colder, darker places because it helps offset the sadness that can set it from lack of sunlight.

However, tangerine essential oil is a great pick-me-up at any time of the year. For best results, try using it in a room diffuser or portable essential oil diffuser like Ocean MONQ.

Anywhere and anytime, if I’m ever missing Anchorage, tangerine essential oil takes me back to the memories of hiking outside, cozy nights huddled up indoors, and the aroma of tangerine coming in with the auklets as spring sets in.
