Cityscape: How Oregano Essential Oil Reminds Me of Chicago and Deep Dish Pizza

I’m a lover of natural ways to not only enhance and beautify my skin but to also benefit my health and peace of mind and spirit. I wasn’t always this way. Before I found the beauty of alternative methods, I relied on traditional methods. However, I’ve seen that medications and chemicals have hurt my life rather than help it.

That’s why things like essential oils have been part of my natural toolkit ever since I changed my view of things. I’m always on the lookout for oils of the plants that I haven’t tried before, and I’ve recently discovered oregano oil. I’m blown away by how powerful it is, and how it reminds me of Chicago and its deep dish pizza!

Pizza, Navy Pier, and Skyscrapers

Chicago has been “my kind of town” for over two decades. I moved here when I was a teenager, and I’ve chosen to remain here into adulthood. Except for New York and Los Angeles, it has more residents than any other city, and lots of people travel to the “Windy City” every year whether for business or pleasure. I consider it one of the principal cities and I’m proud to call it home. There’s so much to do here that it’s hard ever to get bored; from its many sights and sounds to the scents of its delicious food, Chicago is one of the most exciting spots on the planet.

Chicago is the birthplace of the skyscraper. One of the most popular attractions is The Ledge from the Skydeck at Willis Tower, the eighth-tallest skyscraper in the world. You step inside a big glass box that’s 1,353 feet up! And, of course, I can’t get enough of Chi-Town’s Millennium Park, Navy Pier, its many museums, theater, shopping options, and its beautiful beaches on Lake Michigan. Arguably, the best thing about Chicago is its food. If you’ve never tasted its deep dish pizza, for example, you’re missing out. Oregano oil reminds me of one of Chicago’s dominant aromas and the famous flavor of Chicago pizza.

Oregano Essential Oil is the Essence of Chicago

Although the dishes I cook may not taste as good as the food at Chicago’s beloved restaurants, oregano is an herb that’s a staple in my kitchen. I use it in at least half of my recipes, and I love to sprinkle it in tomato sauce and on my pizza. But in addition to tasting delicious, did you know that the essential oil of oregano is a potent healing oil? You only need a few drops to unlock its healing properties.

Originally from the Mediterranean area, with a smell similar to sage or thyme, its healing properties were discovered. For example, if you have a stuffy nose, inhale it to clear out your sinuses. I like to put a few drops of the oil in boiling water, then place a towel over my head and breath in the scent. Whenever I have tummy troubles, I always reach for natural remedies, because you can put a couple of drops of the oil into a warm cup of water and sip it as a tea to help with stomach irritation and bloating.

Personally, my favorite is what it does for my skin. For skin tags, pimples, rashes, eczema, and more, oregano oil mixed with olive oil, for example, can do wonders. This is a powerful oil with fantastic benefits, so it’s likely to be too irritating to place on the skin directly.

Oregano essential oil is also beneficial to get rid of any ants in your kitchen by taking an empty spray bottle, mix 15 drops of oregano oil with 15 drops of lemon oil and then fill the rest of the bottle with water. Spray your kitchen counters and the corners. I love this natural remedy to rid my home of these pests. But, these are just some of the things you can do with oregano oil, and I love that it has so many benefits!

Chicago is a lively and busy city that I’ve fallen deeper in love every year (almost as deep as the pizza). For me, oregano has a robust flavor and a scent that reminds me of places famous for their food like Italy, Greece and of course, Chicago. If you get the opportunity to visit this lively city, hopefully, you’ll be able to spend a few days here for the attractions and be blown away by the quality of food at its many restaurants. Chances are when you’re strolling by the many Chicago restaurants and the smells emanating from within, you’ll recognize the intoxicating scent of oregano.
